A Message from Debra Frankel
Director, Third Street Preschool
Welcome to our school! Choosing the best educational environment for your child and family is a significant decision. We are so glad that you are interested in our extraordinary school. Compelling curriculum, music, movement, dance, art and gardening are infused in our daily learning experiences at school. We believe in the magic of early childhood and strive to cultivate experiences for children and their families that will spark a love of lifelong learning, community and the arts in all who pass through our spaces.
Third Street is an educational gem. Exceptional teachers are at the heart of this institution, guiding and inspiring our learners over the course of their time with us. We embrace a holistic approach that values all areas of a child’s development: Social/Emotional, Cognitive, Motor, and Language and Literacy. We scaffold curriculum from age level to age level, ensuring that our learners can actively explore all our learning spaces while engaging in developmentally appropriate, purposeful play, ever mindful of kindergarten readiness.
Our preschool reflects the life of our host school, the Third Street Music School, and is a place where learning and the arts meet. Professional musicians, dancers and artists from the Music School, trained in teaching our youngest learners, regularly meet with our students to share their expertise in creative movement, instrument exploration, gross motor exploration and fine art.
The Learning Garden serves as an extension of our classrooms. From composting to planting to harvesting, our students and families learn not only about planting from seed and tending a garden, but about what it means to be a steward of the earth.
Third Street holds an unwavering dedication to equity and belonging. Every child’s unique identity is celebrated and respected, creating an inclusive and nurturing environment. While Third Street is nondenominational, we welcome families to share their traditions and celebrations with us at school. Our student body represents the rich tapestry of downtown Manhattan.
